Via Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS-DOST)

An explosive eruption is currently occurring at the summit vent of Kanlaon Volcano that began at 5:51 AM today, 8 April 2025. The eruption is producing a voluminous bent plume approximately 4,000 meters tall that is drifting southwest. Pyroclastic density currents or PDCs descended the slopes on the general southern edifice based on IP and thermal camera monitors. Alert level 3 prevails over Kanlaon Volcano.

The DOST-PHIVOLCS used computer simulations of the Kanlaon Volcano ash emission on 08 April 2025 to guide ashfall impact monitoring for the communities. These maps were generated using plume height data from DOST-PHIVOLCS, and an eruption duration of 56 minutes.

Ashfall was reported at Barangays Cubay, San Miguel, and La Granja, La Carlota City. The model predicts most ash will disperse at 5 km plume height, explaining the minimal ashfall west of Kanlaon, as confirmed by the community reports on the ground.
