In the context of the recent M6.2 earthquake in Turkey (April 23, 2025), it should be said that Turkey has been hit by some 293 earthquakes in the past year.
“A strong earthquake of 6.2 M at a depth of 10 km occurred in the Sea of Marmara (Türkiye) on April 23 at 9.49 UTC (12.49 local time). The epicentre was located offshore close to the coast (approximately 23.21 kmv south-west) of the Greater Istanbul Metropolitan Area, north-western Türkiye. Four aftershocks from 4.0 M to 5.0 M have been recorded in the area on the same day as the main event.
Media report, as of April 24, 236 injured people, most of them slightly injured due to panic attacks. In addition, media also report 12 evacuated buildings. As of April 24, there are no reports of fatalities.” (Source: ERCC – Emergency Response Coordination Center)
