Honor of our speakers at the final GeoDRR 2024 conference
It was a great honour to have at the final conference of the GeoDRR project the greetings of Professor Sebastian Werle PhD, DSc, Vice Chancellor for Science and International Cooperation, whose university coordinated it, and with Professor DR MOHD FOAD SAKDAN-Vice Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), which hosted the final event.
Prof. Werle reported on the Erasmus PLUS Capacity Building Project “Geomatics for Disaster Risk Reduction”, which was successfully implemented by a consortium of ten partner institutions. He said that, indeed, some things were difficult during the pandemic; however, all partners were resilient and committed to achieving the objectives, such as creating new academic programmes in disaster risk reduction.
Prof. Mohd Foad Sakdan began his speech by thanking everyone for the privilege of being able to gather at such an important conference, which once again underlined UUM’s commitment to internationalisation and collaboration. He reiterated that education knows no borders and the concept of the M.Sc. GeoDRR programme is one that is directed towards creating resilient communities in harmony with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This call reaffirmed the need for continuous collaboration among various stakeholders in formulating a strategy for effective and sustainable risk reduction.
