GeoDRR interesting facts. Today, 22 August 2023 at 9:37 am CET, a strong tremor of 3.4 on the Richter scale (about 2×10^8J) occurred in Upper Silesia (Poland, EU). The strongest tremor was felt in the cities of: Ruda Śląska, Zabrze, Chorzów, Katowice and Bytom. Many homes were rocked by furniture and lamps. Other effects of the tremor will be further reported and analysed.

Tremors and rockbursts are in Upper Silesia (and Poland in general) the result of underground or open-cast mining of raw materials. They have been the subject of research and forecasts by scientists in Poland for more than one century.
